In the fifty-fourth World of Warcraft podcast episode, we find out that the Headless Horseman’s mount is in fact NOT a lie after all, Sláinte owns everyone and everything by tanking battlegrounds with his Blood DK, we wonder what made raiding Siege of Orgrimmar so awful and offer ways to improve the LFR experience for everyone, Molsan decides to go for the sure thing and raids Black Temple instead, we make bold predictions for Pet Battles in 6.0 and beyond, we hunt for rare pets and mounts and complain about spawn camping, we reveal the results from our recent gold-making and mount farming challenges, and we deliver a tip about buying gear from the Blizzcon store.

Kanzaki

Hey sliante and molsan,

Kanzaki from ER here. Was just listening to episode 52 and though it’s not one of your weeks of wow questions, I really liked your question about top 5 wow changes…

So, for me, the biggest change in the game was at the end of the burning crusade: Plus healing gear and plus spell damage gear merged into just spell power. I was a priest that leveled shadow, loved it, but decided to be useful, and would spec into mooncloth tailoring and be a healer at 70. When I hit 70, I was ready to heal, with my mooncloth set and all my plus healing gear. I hated it. I couldn’t do anything right and regulars were a complete disaster. Knowing that I would have to respec my character and my tailoring to get back to shadow, I said “forget that” and quit the game. I came back six months later and started leveling a new alt, but it wasn’t shadow. At the end of BC, healing power changed and I could join my guild in Karazhan for the first time, and I could do it as shadow. Though I have leveled other characters or specced into disc or holy, Kanzaki the shadow priest is my main and will stay that way, on the top of my character list.

Thanks for reading my rant and thanks for the great show.

Sincerely (in shadowform),

Kusof the Pally

Hey Molsan and Salty. Love the show and your tweets.

After listening to episode 52, I wondered what you Molsan (and definitely not for Salty who Hates guild repairs) thought was fair for Guild repairs. I had thought 75g or maybe 100g/day for our mains, but complaints came up every day with 5.4 and the damn timeless isle. Eventually I had enough and just bumped it to 250g a day. I’m on Bleeding-Hollow US, Horde side (who could play as the dirty alliance), and run a small guild of mostly PvPers. But ever since the timeless isle opened up, people are dying all over the place from falling or ganking, or even the Celestials, and repairs are adding up.

I can assure you the guild itself (Flonkerton, named after a silly game on an old episode of The Office) doesn’t have the cash flow to cover 250g/day. But gold is easy  to find in WoW…  and we have an army of alts to cover all our enchants/belt buckles/gems/xmutes/etc, so we don’t have many other costs in the game. And I have several markets I use to make loads of cash. But what level of daily repairs is fair?

And Salty, enjoy your DK vacation. I think we all know you’ll be back on your Pally before too long.

Jellad

Hey Guys,

I know this mail is really close to recording day, so I hope I make it in this week.  I’ve been meaning to mail you for a few weeks now to close out 30 W-WoW but I’ve been so busy!  Well here goes:

Week 27 — A time you made friends with someone in a group?

As I said on another episode, I met my wife in WoW, our two guilds were doing H Malygos in WoLK.  She had a sexy vent voice, and I was hooked.  I knew her for a year before we first met, and it was <3 at first sight.

Week 28 — Your favorite dungeon/raid/world boss?

I love XT from Ulduar.  I think its the funniest audio in the game.

Week 29 — Your favorite Mists of Pandaria dungeon?

This is hard for me because I love Asian themed anything.  MOP is a wow dream come true.  if I had to choose, it would be Temple of the Jade Serpent, although Stormstout brewery is a ton-o-fun

Week 30 — Your main character and what he/she means to you?

Wow, I am not even sure where to start with this.  Jellad is Me, and I am Jellad.  His history is wrapped up not only in world of Warcraft, but in Rift, Terra, and tabletop D&D that I played with RL friends a few years ago.  He has a long and complicated story filled with dream states, lots of relationships, and life and death choices and situations.  I don’t have it all written down anywhere, but its all in my head and my heart.  He interacts, and treats people as I personally would treat someone.  If you know D&D, he is a true neutral.  Good for bad, tit for tat.  Jellad is the first character, and the last character I will ever play.  I make him first in every game I play, and he experiences game life before alts are even a twinkle in my eye.  I know that sounds corny, but such is life, real, and virtual.

I also wanted to touch on some stuff you guys talked about last week

1. Murloc costumes rule.  period

2. I would love to see you guys do weekly challenges again. (2 conditions, no leveling challenges and no gold making challenges)  I have a personal maxed every class/profession challenge due by Christmas. (Currently 5 / 11)

<3 the show

~Jellad – CTR Aerie Peak

PS – Please don’t hate me for hating fishing, but know that i max it out on all my toons, mostly because I am OCD.

Moomoocachoo

I had two toons that never made it to level 20 before I made Moomoocachoo, my feral druid on Proudmoore to play with several friends who quit a week or so later. Moo was originally a boomkin born during WOTLK. It took me many month of play to level her and died more times than I’d care to remember. But Moo was a determined girl and one of my proudest moments in Wow was when she finally dinged 80. I had never done a dungeon, I had no idea how to gem or enchant, but dammit she was 80 and won my heart. In Cata, with the help of our guildie and friend Lurry Dean, Moo made the switch to Feral and finally found her calling at last and NEVER looked back!

Role Play secrets:

Moo hates boomkins and in PVP goes after them for sport.

Moo hates PVPers on timeless Isle and if they get near the edge will blow them over the cliff.

She and Baine Bloodhoof were in love when they were teens, but his mother couldn’t accept a druid as a daughter-in-law,

Rhett (and fiance, Sinamone)

Hello gentleman,

I’m writing in to report an achievement, my tauren hunter earned this weekend. He got the “Represent!” achievement for acquiring a tabard. Why is this a big deal? Because the tabard in question is the official Bitter & Salty guild tabard! Not only did I get my level 1 toon in the guild, my fiancé also joined as well. (She has a non-official achievement of her own to report as she, as a level 1 BLOOD ELF died to fire damage in Thunder Bluff, wrap your head around that one)

Thanks to Strumpet for the invites!

Have a great show guys!

Guignol – B&S guild Earthen Ring US

Here’s an explanation for Blood Tap and why its so useful for a blood DK.

Almost all of your moves are dependent on one of three types of resource runes which gradually refresh over time.  There exists a fourth type of wildcard called a “death rune”.

Blood Tap is used to game the resource system and give you instant death runes so you can cast the abilities you want to be casting like death strike, blood boil, or death siphon without waiting.

Charge up the Blood Tap by casting  filler spells dependent on runic power like rune strike and death coil.  As soon as you have over 5 charges on your blood tap, smack that button and then presto you can then hit one of your nukes without waiting.

By maximizing the amount  of times you can cast the spells which heal you, your DK can be well nigh invincible.  My lvl 80 DK has solo’d heroic 5 mans like Pit of Saron and a heavy use of blood tap to ready death strike and death siphon is my main survival tool.

PS. also reforge everything you can to mastery once you start getting gear that can be reforged to really pimp your death strike’s absorption shield

Pet Battle Email from Kori from Aerie Peak – US <Convert to Raid>

Hey guys,

I was thinking about the tweet I sent Slainte and thought maybe I should provide more info.

Here is my guide to getting your first lvl 25 pet fairly quickish.

Capture an Arcane Eye or few from outside Karazhan. These pets are a single pet fight around lvl 17. You should be able to take them out with around lvl 8-10 pets. It is 3 to 1 after all.

Get the blues if you can, else greens work just fine.

if you can’t find a green, grab a white or grey and upgrade them to green by paying 1000 justice points to the justice point vendor standing on the Temple of Niuzao

Battle lvl 20-21 pets. Capture any blues or greens you can. (or make them with JP stones) Swap out your team to the higher pets, and then fight any pets at least 3 levels higher then your own. Wild pets at this level lose 2 levels of experience when caught, so this trick will only take you up to around level 22-23 pets. Find a good spot with lots of pets in pandaria, (the pools in the vale work well, for example) and battle your way to 25.

All of the power level guides I’ve found assume you at least 1 or 2 lvl 25 pets. This is the quickest way I know to get that first 25.

Baloku, Earthen Ring

Hey guys, great show.

As a new listener I’ve only heard a few episodes, but Bitter and Salty is already at the top of my playlist.

I’m also new to WoW, relatively, having started at the end of Cata, so I’m still spending most of my time catching up and experiencing WoW with a first time beginner’s mind.

You’ll probably talk about pet battles again and for when you do I’d like to point out that Mr. Pinchy is freakin’ awesome!  Molsan, Fish up a Mr. Pinchy!  Slainte, he’s just waiting to be the captain of your team.

For the seventeenth week in the World of Warcraft, how could it be anything other than fishing?  Hooray for Mr. Pinchy!  ‘nuf said, eh?

I missed the discounted character transfer weekend, and honestly I’m too cheap to have paid for a character transfer anyway.  However, I took a look at the Bitter and Salty’s “Stay Classy” progress and rolled a goblin mage on Earthen Ring.  If you’d like to toss me a guild invite, I’d love to join.

P.S. Aquoavo, Karazhan, Rogue, Howling Fjord, Dire Maul, Harrison Jones in Grizzly Hills, Remember the Sunwell, PvE, For the Horde?, Flameward Hipogryph, Noblegarden Gearset, What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been, Magister’s Terrace, Stratholme, Bartender, The Violet Hold, and Fishing! Hooray for Mr. Pinchy!

And stop.

@Lilulicious

Hi Boys!

Thought I’d send an email for Week 17 of 30 Weeks of WoW: favorite profession. Too much to fit in a Tweet, and I know how much Salty Sláinte loves reading emails. ;)

My favorite profession in WoW has nothing to do with what is most beneficial for my class, and in point of fact, I have a love/hate relationship with this profession. It’s weird and wacky, it’s Engineering.

First, why I love it: there are so many fun, cool, useful items to make. From the chopper to the roflcopter, belt tinkers, bombs, trinkets, guns, goggles, gadgets, thingamabobs, and doohickeys, Engineering has loads of awesome toys to play with.

Why I hate it: Parts. All the freaking weird little parts you have to make BEFORE you can make the item. A framework, a tube, blasting powders, triggers, struts, contacts, a handful of nuts… err, I mean bolts. It’s an organizational nightmare converting raw mats to parts, parts to an item.

To me, though, the rewards outweigh the annoyance of constructing the item. I love blasting open a lockbox or having a belt tinker that projects a “cardboard” version of me to draw aggro. And don’t get me started on how much I adore my roflcopter!

I don’t think I have to tell you fellas how much I love the show and look forward to it every week, but I’ll tell ya again anyways!

Ciao for now!

Ashayo

Fishing! Nah, I just said that to maintain the ‘separated from Slainte at birth’ legend.

Inscription! Nah, I just said that coz Molsans Milling Macro is da bomb.

Cooking! Nah, I just said that so I’d have an excuse to say “rep with ma’ besties”

For the longest time, Jewelcrafting was my favourite profession. The reason was a combination of factors including that it was new, it was a good gold earner, there was plenty of opportunity to help guildies that didnt have the right cuts, and it had some pretty good JC-only perks. It’s kind of fallen out of favour with me this expansion, mostly because I think the first three of that list no longer really applies as much as it used to.

So I’m going to cheat and say my favourite profession is mining-alchemy-blacksmithing. There’s other combinations, but that’s currently my favourite. As an altoholic, there’s nothing more fulfilling than mining your own ore, smelting it, getting your alchemist to trasmute into trillium and living steel, then having your blacksmith make a super useful belt buckle or the like.

Stay professiony San Diego

Really enjoying the podcast – this is my first listen. :)

ElvUI and other bag modes – if you go into the configuration for elvUI (/elvUI), you can go to bags and disable the bag addon in ElvUI.

This didn’t affect my OneBag installation at all – just kept me from displaying 4 bags at the bank!

Joanna

I’m going to listen to this tonight while playing because you touch on a lot of relevant topics to me, but without listening, I’d say that dps is about spell rotation, that can end up with a lot of button hitting when the going gets tough. If it’s possible to soulstone a boss well I have possible done that, as well as hitting and equipping my fishing rod out of confusion, or perhaps building a cooking fire.

The Warlock noob. Hmm 5 years playing one and I’m an expert at questing, but put me in a raid and I’m like a toddler on a day out with the grown ups.

As for elvUI. I hated it at first and changed back to Blizzards default, but for me elvUI grows on you, until you just can’t do without it.

Looking forward to having a listen.

Pet Battles

Dear Bitter and Salty,

After listening to your show the past two weeks, I finally took the time to write in about leveling Battle Pets quickly. Much like you as I was progressing through the Trainers through the various zones and needed to level up other pet families then the ones I had at level 25. I ran into the same issue in trying to identify a way to level a pet up rapidly and ran into the same suggestions of doing the dailies, but as you are aware when you are at that point you can’t use that process fully until you’ve beat the trainers you need to level pets for!

So I stumbled across one comment about taking your low level pet and putting it in a team with two other 25’s and taking it to Dragonblight in Northrend. At all of the dragon skeletons throughout the zone there are Dragonbone Hatchlings (http://www.wowhead.com/npc=62852) They are in the area in an abundant amount and hit fairly weakly and respawn fairly quickly. So if you are looking for a rather fast way to level up a low level this is one way. Keep in mind this will get fairly mind numbingly boring very quickly considering you will be facing the same pets over and and over.

With that in mind I wanted to find another way that wasn’t so grindy and so boring. So here is where I get to the “secret”. With your leveling pet in the first slot, (get it up to level 3 at least, so it isn’t one shot), go around the world and hunt all those other pets you know your OCD is telling you to collect. Let that leveling pet take a hit or make a hit, and then rotate it out. Rinse and repeat as you travel around the world trying to collect rares. So kill two birds (two dragonkins, whatever) with one stone, level a pet and collect all the things!

I found in one weekend of moderate playing, while waiting for Raid Finder queues to pop I was able to level at least one of every pet family to max level and not feel like I was fighting the same stuff over and over to the point of insanity. Meanwhile I was collecting all the pets I didn’t have and picking up the rares.

I know you also touched briefly on this but if there is a certain pet family you need, hop over to wowhead.com orwarcraftpets.com and see if there is a high level version in a Northrend/Cata/Pandaria zone you can hunt and capture a rare that you don’t have. When you capture them they will be around level 22-23 saving you a lot of leveling. I distinctly remember needing like two turtles since I had none anywhere past level 3 and was able to pick up two I still needed to capture in MoP zones saving me a ton of time.

As always great job with the show and I look forward to the next one! Good luck and good hunting!
