Pet Battle Email from Kori from Aerie Peak – US <Convert to Raid>

Hey guys,

I was thinking about the tweet I sent Slainte and thought maybe I should provide more info.

Here is my guide to getting your first lvl 25 pet fairly quickish.

Capture an Arcane Eye or few from outside Karazhan. These pets are a single pet fight around lvl 17. You should be able to take them out with around lvl 8-10 pets. It is 3 to 1 after all.

Get the blues if you can, else greens work just fine.

if you can’t find a green, grab a white or grey and upgrade them to green by paying 1000 justice points to the justice point vendor standing on the Temple of Niuzao

Battle lvl 20-21 pets. Capture any blues or greens you can. (or make them with JP stones) Swap out your team to the higher pets, and then fight any pets at least 3 levels higher then your own. Wild pets at this level lose 2 levels of experience when caught, so this trick will only take you up to around level 22-23 pets. Find a good spot with lots of pets in pandaria, (the pools in the vale work well, for example) and battle your way to 25.

All of the power level guides I’ve found assume you at least 1 or 2 lvl 25 pets. This is the quickest way I know to get that first 25.

TWoWoW Week 17 – Favorite Profession

Sláinte – Fishing… Like Duh

Molsan – Enchanting

Baloku, Earthen Ring

Hey guys, great show.

As a new listener I’ve only heard a few episodes, but Bitter and Salty is already at the top of my playlist.

I’m also new to WoW, relatively, having started at the end of Cata, so I’m still spending most of my time catching up and experiencing WoW with a first time beginner’s mind.

You’ll probably talk about pet battles again and for when you do I’d like to point out that Mr. Pinchy is freakin’ awesome!  Molsan, Fish up a Mr. Pinchy!  Slainte, he’s just waiting to be the captain of your team.

For the seventeenth week in the World of Warcraft, how could it be anything other than fishing?  Hooray for Mr. Pinchy!  ‘nuf said, eh?

I missed the discounted character transfer weekend, and honestly I’m too cheap to have paid for a character transfer anyway.  However, I took a look at the Bitter and Salty’s “Stay Classy” progress and rolled a goblin mage on Earthen Ring.  If you’d like to toss me a guild invite, I’d love to join.

P.S. Aquoavo, Karazhan, Rogue, Howling Fjord, Dire Maul, Harrison Jones in Grizzly Hills, Remember the Sunwell, PvE, For the Horde?, Flameward Hipogryph, Noblegarden Gearset, What a Long Strange Trip it’s Been, Magister’s Terrace, Stratholme, Bartender, The Violet Hold, and Fishing! Hooray for Mr. Pinchy!

And stop.

Hi Boys!

Thought I’d send an email for Week 17 of 30 Weeks of WoW: favorite profession. Too much to fit in a Tweet, and I know how much Salty Sláinte loves reading emails. 😉

My favorite profession in WoW has nothing to do with what is most beneficial for my class, and in point of fact, I have a love/hate relationship with this profession. It’s weird and wacky, it’s Engineering.

First, why I love it: there are so many fun, cool, useful items to make. From the chopper to the roflcopter, belt tinkers, bombs, trinkets, guns, goggles, gadgets, thingamabobs, and doohickeys, Engineering has loads of awesome toys to play with.

Why I hate it: Parts. All the freaking weird little parts you have to make BEFORE you can make the item. A framework, a tube, blasting powders, triggers, struts, contacts, a handful of nuts… err, I mean bolts. It’s an organizational nightmare converting raw mats to parts, parts to an item.

To me, though, the rewards outweigh the annoyance of constructing the item. I love blasting open a lockbox or having a belt tinker that projects a “cardboard” version of me to draw aggro. And don’t get me started on how much I adore my roflcopter!

I don’t think I have to tell you fellas how much I love the show and look forward to it every week, but I’ll tell ya again anyways!

Ciao for now!

Fishing! Nah, I just said that to maintain the ‘separated from Slainte at birth’ legend.

Inscription! Nah, I just said that coz Molsans Milling Macro is da bomb.

Cooking! Nah, I just said that so I’d have an excuse to say “rep with ma’ besties”

For the longest time, Jewelcrafting was my favourite profession. The reason was a combination of factors including that it was new, it was a good gold earner, there was plenty of opportunity to help guildies that didnt have the right cuts, and it had some pretty good JC-only perks. It’s kind of fallen out of favour with me this expansion, mostly because I think the first three of that list no longer really applies as much as it used to.

So I’m going to cheat and say my favourite profession is mining-alchemy-blacksmithing. There’s other combinations, but that’s currently my favourite. As an altoholic, there’s nothing more fulfilling than mining your own ore, smelting it, getting your alchemist to trasmute into trillium and living steel, then having your blacksmith make a super useful belt buckle or the like.

Stay professiony San Diego

TWoWoW Week 18 – Best and worst thing about World of Warcraft

Really enjoying the podcast – this is my first listen. 🙂

ElvUI and other bag modes – if you go into the configuration for elvUI (/elvUI), you can go to bags and disable the bag addon in ElvUI.

This didn’t affect my OneBag installation at all – just kept me from displaying 4 bags at the bank!

I’m going to listen to this tonight while playing because you touch on a lot of relevant topics to me, but without listening, I’d say that dps is about spell rotation, that can end up with a lot of button hitting when the going gets tough. If it’s possible to soulstone a boss well I have possible done that, as well as hitting and equipping my fishing rod out of confusion, or perhaps building a cooking fire.

The Warlock noob. Hmm 5 years playing one and I’m an expert at questing, but put me in a raid and I’m like a toddler on a day out with the grown ups.

As for elvUI. I hated it at first and changed back to Blizzards default, but for me elvUI grows on you, until you just can’t do without it.

Looking forward to having a listen.

Pet Battles

Dear Bitter and Salty,

After listening to your show the past two weeks, I finally took the time to write in about leveling Battle Pets quickly. Much like you as I was progressing through the Trainers through the various zones and needed to level up other pet families then the ones I had at level 25. I ran into the same issue in trying to identify a way to level a pet up rapidly and ran into the same suggestions of doing the dailies, but as you are aware when you are at that point you can’t use that process fully until you’ve beat the trainers you need to level pets for!

So I stumbled across one comment about taking your low level pet and putting it in a team with two other 25’s and taking it to Dragonblight in Northrend. At all of the dragon skeletons throughout the zone there are Dragonbone Hatchlings ( They are in the area in an abundant amount and hit fairly weakly and respawn fairly quickly. So if you are looking for a rather fast way to level up a low level this is one way. Keep in mind this will get fairly mind numbingly boring very quickly considering you will be facing the same pets over and and over.

With that in mind I wanted to find another way that wasn’t so grindy and so boring. So here is where I get to the “secret”. With your leveling pet in the first slot, (get it up to level 3 at least, so it isn’t one shot), go around the world and hunt all those other pets you know your OCD is telling you to collect. Let that leveling pet take a hit or make a hit, and then rotate it out. Rinse and repeat as you travel around the world trying to collect rares. So kill two birds (two dragonkins, whatever) with one stone, level a pet and collect all the things!

I found in one weekend of moderate playing, while waiting for Raid Finder queues to pop I was able to level at least one of every pet family to max level and not feel like I was fighting the same stuff over and over to the point of insanity. Meanwhile I was collecting all the pets I didn’t have and picking up the rares.

I know you also touched briefly on this but if there is a certain pet family you need, hop over to and see if there is a high level version in a Northrend/Cata/Pandaria zone you can hunt and capture a rare that you don’t have. When you capture them they will be around level 22-23 saving you a lot of leveling. I distinctly remember needing like two turtles since I had none anywhere past level 3 and was able to pick up two I still needed to capture in MoP zones saving me a ton of time.

As always great job with the show and I look forward to the next one! Good luck and good hunting!

Vuhdo. Oh my goodness. It started out years ago as just something to make healing easier, and now, it has morphed into my entire casting interface, no matter who I’m playing. I love that I can bind anything (spells, potions, bandages) to my mouse. And that there’s a whole area of “hostile” spell bindings for fighting. Top that off with complete customization, auto buff renewal, and profiles I can save and load throughout my acct… And you have one satisfied caster.

Violet Hold

I just love it! As far as the Wrath Dungeons go, it’s totally my favorite. I like that it’s in Dalaran, it’s all in one room, and there’s that gamble on who you’ll fight. Its quick, easy, and totally different than any other Instance I’ve done.

ArkInventory – The one addon I cannot live without.

OLD Pally Power – Runner Up

Hey, Bitter and Salty.

Favourite Addon: TSM, actually, based on the suggestion of the show.

Also, ElvUI, which replaced about a dozen other addons and really looks great on both my PC and my Mac.

Of course, I picked two, so I’m sure I’m disqualified…

Currently my favorite addon is a little bird called SavedInstances.  If you’ve got a lot of characters, it can be difficult to remember who’s killed Nalak, who’s looted their treasure key, who’s done their transmutes, etc.  This app tracks a myriad of useful daily and weekly lock outs in an elegant fashion.  This has saved me a lot of pointless character switches which means more time to dance on the mailbox.
