In the fiftieth World of Warcraft podcast episode, we continue the Siege on Orgrimmar and collect all the empire’s dirty little secrets, we cut deep into constructing expansions and suggest that the main storyline shouldn’t have to flow through raid content, Molsan begins leveling his Shaman and realizes that there are new and amazing addons to install, we get lazy and use rotation macros, in-game quest guides, and addons for automatically turning in quests, Sláinte wins the Recount vs. Skada debate once and for all, we announce our favorite Mists of Pandaria dungeon for our Thirty Weeks of WoW and gently reveal that dungeons are no more.

Find all teh coins/treasures! FREE LOOT!

Email from Svander (Dark Iron) / Mildrid (Earthen Ring)

So there’s that big whale shark Evermaw that circles the new Timeless Isle frequently and drops over 1000 coins per kill.  Kind of a pain to pew pew something in the water that’s moving as fast as it does, right?  Well did you know that you can hop on your Angler’s fishing raft and chase him around as long as you board it before entering combat?  Makes the fight much easier and more hilarious to look at!

PS. Grats to Svander on obtaining his legendary cloak!

In the forty-eighth World of Warcraft podcast episode, we want the Khan achievement but don’t want to do any of that PvP; we tell each other that it’s okay to spend gold on gear, especially if it’s a DPS set for an Unholy Death Knight; we fix our LFR lag by tweaking some in-game graphics settings; and for our thirty weeks of WoW, we reminisce about a time… a special time when Warcraft kindled a spark… a spark that ignited a fiery, intense, and lifelong friendship… for Molsan and Sláinte.

“Leatrix Latency Fix will reduce your online gaming latency significantly by increasing the frequency of TCP acknowledgements sent to the game server. For the technically minded, this is a program which will modify TCPAckFrequency.

You will see reduced latency in many online games including World of Warcraft, Guild Wars 2, Diablo 3, Star Wars, Rift, Aion, Warhammer, Lord of the Rings, and more.”

TWoWoW This Week – Meet a Friend in the Game

Leeta with Ashayo

Hi guys!

Rubmahbelleh here to chime in on week 27 and catch up a little!

I don’t think I have ‘made friends’ with anyone that I’ve grouped with! While I don’t mind LFD at all and often end up continuing to re-queue with one person or another, I rarely contact them later despite both of us /friending the other. I’ve made some strong friendships with people in WoW but those friendships usually start with being in the same guild together. I’d say I need a little more time than an LFD allows before calling someone a friend and so far, LFD hasn’t led to that.

For week 26, I turned to Altoholic for a snapshot of my current /played status. It turns out, I’ve played a total of 164 days, 7 hours, 56 minutes. Not as bad as I thought it might be. But what about the money I’ve put into WoW?

I’ve been a WoW subscriber since launch, paying month-to-month for the first year and then paying every six months and getting a slightly cheaper rate. If I calculate those subscription costs along with what I’ve spent on the original game purchase, expansions, Blizzard store mounts and companions, and  server, faction and name changes, I’ve dropped (gulp) $2042 on this game.

But wait, let’s put this in perspective. Looking at these two totals together, I see WoW costs me about $0.52/hour to play. Ooohh…suddenly this looks like a sound financial decision!

Since this was money spent on ‘fun’ what alternatives might there be?

That amount of money would take me to about 185 movies, netting me approximately 309 hours of fun at a rate of $6.60/hour. Hmm, WoW wins over movies.

Two grand could take me to Disney World (flight, hotel, meals, park admission for one person). Over-estimating stamina and interest, let’s say I spend 12 hours a day for four days in parks, Disney turns out being a comparative rip-off at $43/hour.

How about music? Songs are cheap, they’ll beat WoW! Ok…so if I buy 2063 songs at 99¢ each and they average four minutes in length, that’s about 138 hours of entertainment at a rate of … $14.85/hour.

Ok…so that $2000 total took me by surprise a little but after looking at a few of my alternatives, I clearly have been making Warren Buffet-level decisions with my entertainment dollar and can totally justify buying more store mounts! That said, here’s a code for an Armored Bloodwing for the show. 🙂

And for the record, I’m really not a creepy loner at Disney World, I have a wife and two kids but none of them currently pay to play WoW so I was certainly NOT going to bring them along while I went to my 185 movies in the Magic Kingdom and listened to lots of music.

Awesome show, guys, thanks!

Hey guys, it’s Grimm writing in with weeks 26 and 27 of the 30 weeks of WoW.

My /played really reflects my lack of playtime on alts, as my main, Grimmclaw, has 141 days played. Using Altoholic to take the totals from my two main realms, my total across all toons is 175 days. I know last week there was some discussion about being embarrassed to say our /played, because of the implication of what else we could be doing with that time. But honestly, I feel no embarrassment whatsoever about that time spent playing WoW, because I can honestly say that had I not been playing WoW, I would have been playing something else, or watching tv, or doing some other non-productive thing, But what I got out of WoW that I never would have with solo games or tv are the relationships I have formed in WoW, which brings me to week 27.

A few years ago I moved away from my original server of Korialstrasz, where I played with a couple of family members and friends. Most had all quit the game, and I was ready for something new. I came over to Earthen Ring, and, having never raided, I started looking through the raiding threads on the AIE forums. There I found a thread for a new team forming called Night Moves, looking to raid at a casual pace in order to have fun. I threw up a post saying I was looking for my first raid experience, had only PvP epics and would understand if they weren’t interested. The leader of that team was a guy named Molsan, who said it was no problem, and they would love to have me. From there I went on to meet more great people, who to this day I call my friends. We joke on Twitter, text each other about inane things, and meet at Blizzcon to watch each other dive into bushes. I see no reason that these people won’t continue to be my good friends long after we all move on to other games. Thanks for taking a chance on a noob, Molsan, and allowing me to meet all these great people. Your furry, stinky druid friend, Grimmclaw

Hey guys, a thought came across my mind while listening to the latest episode;  What do you think the reason is that people are reluctant to tell others their /played time, but they’ll tell people that they’ve been playing since Vinilla (or BC or Wrath or Cata) with an amount of pride?
